American Association of Professional Medicare Advisors

Seniors with decisions to make about Medicare face a nearly impenetrable maze of Parts and Plans and acronyms, seemingly designed to make it impossible to understand.  The system is ridiculously complex.  It is so difficult to understand that even many professional health insurance agents do not fully grasp the traps and problems awaiting ill-advised clients.

Medicare only covers about 50% of the healthcare costs of the average senior.

Without a private add-on plan of some type, the uncovered portion can easily bankrupt a family.

Here is one of the biggest problems: the system is divided into two entirely separate "universes" of private add-on products.  They work very differently, and must be selected with great care, driven only by what your needs and limitations are.  And approximtely 75% of Medicare health insurance agents are licensed and certified for only one of the two universes of plans!

Would you buy your groceries from a merchant who only had half of a grocery store?

Of course not!  But most Seniors are completely unaware that this is even an issue.  It is so because of years of competing systems, with overlapping regulatory frameworks, and licensing requirements that are very burdensome for brokers and agents who wish to have a "full bag" of products to best serve each individual client, rather than force-fit clients to the products they can earn a commission on.

Members of the American Association of Professional Medicare Advisors are working to change this.  The effort will take some time.  In the meanwhile, we have provided you with an easy way to identify brokers and agents who are licensed and certified to work with products from both the Medicare Advantage universe, and the Medigap Supplement universe.  Everyone shown in the directory below also has at least two of the most competitive insurance carriers' products available in each universe, some of them many more.  This assures our clients of an excellent selection that fits their needs.

The requirements for membership in AAPMA are simple, but they are not easy.  Members must:

1)  Hold current state insurance licenses for all three lines of authority — Life, Health, and Medicare products.

2)  Hold current certifications from AHIP, the American Health Insurance Providers organization.

3)  Hold current appointments with several carriers for Medigap Supplement products.

4)  Hold current appointments and annual certs for several carriers for Medicare Advantage products.

5)  Commit to a Pledge of Ethics that holds the interests of the client above the interests of the member, promising to always search for and obtain the best combination of low price and stability to fit each individual clients’ needs, without regard to how much extra effort it may take.

This last item is very important.  It means that members will seek very low prices for their clients, even if that means doing the extra administrative work required to take on a new carrier, if that’s what it takes to deliver the best value to just one customer.

This is not a common practice in the insurance industry, but we take it upon ourselves willingly.  Being committed to the highest levels of client service means doing a lot of extra work that most agents will not do.  It is far easier to just take a product “off the shelf” of an agent’s current list of carriers than it is to take on a new contract, just to save one client a few dollars per month.

We will seek out members who go the extra mile.  As a famous coach once said, “there are no traffic jams on the extra mile.”  Our Clients love us for it.

Even though we are a small minority of all licensed agents, there are still a great many Medicare specialists who behave this way naturally, and will welcome a formal pledge.  We know how much monthly dollars add up over years of coverage, and we know it is worth the extra effort from us.  If we are right, AAPMA will grow very quickly, and you will soon be able to find a member in your area with a quick search above.
